My August Baby – 5 (and a half) months

Little fuss -

This post is a little late because my birthday was this weekend, and Gigi and Aunt S came to visit us! We had lots of fun playing and showing them all of the new stuff you can do!

Month 4 was a great one! Daycare has done wonders for you. The transition has been really smooth. You’re sleeping through the night like a champ, and I’m surprisingly happy about being back at work. Most of the kids in your class are right around the same age as you (another 5 month old born a few weeks before you, and a few 6-8 months olds.) You seem to really like it there, and your teachers adore you!

On the home front: We moved you to a big boy carseat recently because you are just so TALL!! You’ve also started sitting on your own briefly, and touching your feet, which are just as amazing as your hands!

You are very interested in watching us eat, so we’re very slowly starting to introduce some solid foods now (just a taste here and there). So far, we’ve tried rice cereal and bananas (which you love!) Next, we will try a veggie (maybe sweet potatoes?)

I’m so amazed at all of these changes in such a short amount of time. I can’t wait to see what next month brings! I love you so much!

5 month milestones (from Baby Center):

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

  • Distinguishes between bold colors
  • Plays with his hands and feet

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

    • Recognizes own name
    • Turns toward new sounds
    • Rolls over in both directions – Rolling tummy to back is easy. Still getting the hang of going back to tummy.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

    • Sits momentarily without support
    • Mouths objects
    • Separation anxiety may begin – I haven’t noticed this yet. Not looking forward to it…

Sofi loved (and still loves) avocado at that first foods stage. It’s not the *best* time of year for avocados, but it’s getting closer. They also have all the yummy good fats in them too. :)

Avocados are definitely on our list of stuff to try! I’ll have to keep an eye out for them to go on sale! :)
