Unimpressed with my Quest for the Trimmest AIO

I purchased the following all-in-one cloth diaper brands to try in my quest to find the trimmest AIO! Though my love of hybrid fitteds is no secret, sometimes you need a diaper that can be worn outside the home under pants!

Let’s meet our contenders:

    (Left to right)

  • Bagshot Row Bamboo AIO (one-size)
  • Swaddlebees Simplex AIO (one-size)
  • Chelory Stay-Dry AIO (one-size)

All diapers were tested under the same pair of 18-24 month jeans from The Children’s Place. This is his current size, not one size up like many who CD will do to accommodate a fluffy bum. I wish I had some sized diapers to add to the comparison, but I tend to gravitate towards one-size diapers because I know we’ll get more use out of them in the long run.  I have tried the sized Swaddlebees Simplex 2.0 AIO, though I don’t currently have any for a true comparison.

Bagshot Row Bamboo (BSRB) AIO has a similar design to an AI2, with a cover and a snap-in insert.  It has a hidden layer of PUL to make it leakproof, but the shell can not be wiped clean.  Therefore, when wet OR dirty, the entire diaper will need to be washed before it is reused.

Swaddlebees Simplex AIO has an interesting AIO design.  The soaker is sewn in, and can be stuffed into the corresponding sleeve, OR laid on top of the sleeve prior to putting on baby.  No inserts to snap-in or keep up with.

Chelory Stay-Dry AIO has two layers sewn in on each end of the diaper, which provides fantastic absorption, while allowing for a faster drying time than most AIOs.

Unfortunately, the results for these diapers were all the same:

An unimpressed, unhappy toddler…with unbuttoned jeans.

I think it’s safe to say that you’ll be hard pressed to find a one-size cloth diaper that fits like a disposable under clothing.  But, that’s a good thing!  Cloth is supposed to be soft and fluffy, not thin and papery, right?  🙂

Do you have any other suggestions for cloth diapers that are trim enough to wear under jeans?  Leave them in the comments!

  2. If you’re looking for a one-size AIO, GroVia makes a pretty trim version. It’s side-snapping, with stretchy tabs, so it gives a pretty good fit! Also, My son is 2, almost 30 lbs and 36″, and he still fits into the medium Simplex (both the original and 2.0 — he has a short rise though). The other option I like for under jeans is the Best Bottoms system — the OS cover with the hemp snap-in insert — I would say that combo is pretty much sposie-trim!

We’ve tried Best Bottoms and the rise is too short. I really wanted to love those too. Maybe I’ll give GroVia a shot. I didn’t care for their AI2, but I’ve never tried the AIO. Thanks!

  3. Sized Swaddlebee Simplex 2.0 is the trimmest I have seen other then Bumkins but Bumkins are soaked through and leaking after 1 hour

Yeah, I sold all my sized Swaddlebees to fund the one-size, but I’m kind of regretting that now. I think I’m going to get a better fit with any sized diaper, just because it’s specifically made to fit without the extra bulk. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

I actually find KaWaii to fit fairly well with pants over

    We use the swaddlebees
    simplex one size
and I have found them to be really absorbent and
appear to be very comfy for my son. I think the price is worth it=) I LOVE the crying pic, that is too funny!
