Obviously, I am not a teenager. Been there, done that, thankyouverymuch! So, needless to say – I didn’t watch the Teen Choice Awards. (When was it even on?? This is from 2013, right?!) However, Ashton Kutcher’s speech has gone viral, and I could not ignore it. In my mind, he will always be that idiot Kelso from That 70’s Show – so hearing him speak so honestly and eloquently kind of threw me for a loop.
He’s also not bad to look at, so I had to watch it twice. Once for the eye candy, then again for the WORDS. Preach it, Ashton! (Or maybe he’s going by Chris now??)
If it’s hard to hear him over the screaming girls, here are the bullet points. —
“I’ve never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job. And so opportunities look a lot like work.”
“The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And being thoughtful, and being generous. Everything else is crap, I promise you. It’s just crap that people try to sell to you to make you feel like less. So don’t buy it! Be smart, be thoughtful and be generous.”
“Everything around us that we call life was made up by people that are no smarter than you…So build a life — don’t live one, build one.”
