I’m Baaaaaack!

*blows dust off the old computer* Oh…hi! Sorry for disappearing for the past few months. If you’ve been on pins and needles waiting for an update, I sincerely apologize!

So, here’s what’s been happening in our neck of the woods. (If you follow me on Instagram, you already know this…)

And OMG what a process that was. The buyer of our old house almost backed out twice. I won’t bore you with the details, but seriously, if you don’t have to move…just…don’t. So stressful!

A month later, we’re mostly settled in. We have a housewarming party with some family and friends next weekend, and I’m trying to ignore the fact that rooms still need to be painted…but at least the garage is cleaned out, so we can park both of our cars in it!

Honestly, I’ve been trying to sit down and write this post for a couple of weeks. But, since I stay at home with the little guy now (oh yeah, I quit my job too!), I’ve become painfully aware of the fact that I got a lot more blogging done AT WORK than I do at home. lol That being said, I can’t promise that I’ll be updating every day or anything, but I will do my best to get back on a posting schedule now that we’re finally getting into a routine over here. He still takes naps…for now… πŸ˜‰

Anyway, enough about me! How’s your summer starting out?!

Is this thing on?

*taps mic*

Oh hey – what’s up, y’all?  How’s 2014 treating you so far?!

I’m having a hard time waking up from my blog hibernation, as you can see. It’s just…cold…and my desk is by a big window…meh.

I know, excuses excuses.

But I promise there is a lot of “behind the scenes” work happening here.  (I’ll try not to break my blog in the process.  lol)

And some major life events are happening, too!  (No, not THAT!)

So yes, more real updates very soon, and maybe a fun giveaway to start the new year!

Your Top Ten Posts of 2013

I thought it would be fun to end the year with a look back on the most read PGM posts of the past year. As it turns out (though I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise), the REAL top 10 were all GIVEAWAYS! lol But since I can’t link back to a bunch of closed contests…here are the top ten posts of actual content. As you can see, half of them are sponsor spotlight reviews for giveaways, and half are cloth diaper related! I think I know what I need to focus my blogging efforts on in 2014!

Worst Blogger Ever

My apologies for being the worst blogger ever. Seriously. Life is just happening all crazy fast right now! My mom came to visit over the weekend, I’m super busy at my “real” job (you know, the one that supports my cloth diaper hobby?) and all of the sudden, a week has gone by and the tumbleweeds are blowing through here!

That being said, aside from a NEW GIVEAWAY starting tomorrow, I’ll probably be on a sort of mini-hiatus until August due to work and traveling. I’ll still be updating on Facebook, of course, but there will be a break in new posts here from me for a bit.

If you are interested in writing a guest post for me to fill the void, please check out my advertising page for details. πŸ™‚

Big Time Bloggers Need a Legit Media Kit!

You may have noticed that I’m becoming quite a big deal in the blogging world. People want to send me (I mean…my son!) things to review, and promote their companies and products, which I love to do!

So, with more traffic and promotions coming my way every day, I knew it was time to revamp my advertising page and set up a media kit. I tried cobbling one together myself (I do have awesome paint skillz, ya know!) It was not up to par.

Time to bring in the big guns! So, when Shannon at Just One Sparrow contacted me about her new social media design business, I could not pass up the opportunity to have an actual designer on my side!

Shannon was incredibly professional. I shot her a quick email with my reader stats, and social media numbers. In the meantime, she browsed through my blog to get a feel for what kind of design I was looking for. She sent me a first draft, and I made a few tweaks. Within 24 hours, we had a final product! Doesn’t my new media kit look great?

I am incredibly pleased, and will definitely use her services again!

If you’re looking to add some flair to your blog with a new header, blog button, or media kit – please contact Shannon at Just One Sparrow. You will not be disappointed! And tell her The Practically Green Mom sent you!

PGM Updates – Re: New Blogger FTC Guidelines

Due to a recent incident, I feel the need to discuss some changes being made here at The Practically Green Mom.

Back in March, the FTC made some updates to their guidelines regarding disclosure of online advertising. For bloggers specifically, this applies when we receive products to review or publish a sponsored post. (Don’t worry, Canadians…this only applies to bloggers in the U.S.)

So, basically, I have to tell you UPFRONT when I’ve received a product from a company to review, or (on the rare occasion) when a company asks me to post an article with links promoting a product in exchange for compensation.

You may have noticed that I’m already doing this, at the bottom of each post…in teeny tiny font, as to not disrupt the content itself. But that’s not good enough, anymore…

Now, you will see any of the following on all applicable posts – a clear indicator stating if a product was purchased by me, a press sample, contains affiliate links, was sponsored, or any combination of those four options. (I will be going through and updating old posts as time permits).

Edited (5/6/13): So, my genius plan of including button images with links to disclose at the top of the posts is unacceptable…back to square one. πŸ™

In addition, a full disclosure will remain at the bottom with a link to my disclosure policy.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I Still Love You!

I apologize for the lack of posts here lately. It seems as though I have a hardcore case of writer’s block…and I’m not one to do a streamofconsicousnessallthewordstogetherfrommybrain kind of post.

So, thanks for your patience. I still love you all! I’ll be sure to spam you with reviews and giveaways in the meantime. (That’s why you’re REALLY here, anyway, right?! lol)
