It wasn’t that hard to spend $29…

So, obviously, I caved and bought some stuff from Kelly’s Closet, because they had that coupon deal.

In my defense, I bought a Flip from the sale at Cotton Babies a couple of weeks ago, and it didn’t come with any inserts…  So I needed a couple of the Flip Stay-Dry inserts.

<–  And I’ve been eyeing this Blackbird Thirsties Duo Wrap Diaper Cover, so I got that, because I think it could work for a boy or a girl.

Then I needed a Thirsties Stay-Dry insert to try out with the cover.  (I think the Flip inserts will work with the Thirsties cover also, which is why I only bought one of the Thristies inserts…at least for now…)

If you think about it…since I’m buying the inserts and reusable covers (instead of Pockets or AIOs that have to be washed each time they’re soiled), I spent $30 on 3 diapers and I get a FREE diaper, so that comes out to about $7.50 each ($10 less than your average Pocket diaper would cost!)

Starting the stash

I bought my first diapers today!  At the recommendation of a friend, I ordered from Nicki’s Diapers.  She has a small selection of gently used diapers, where I found…

A GroVia Experience Package with 2 GroVia Shells and 4 GroVia Organic Soaker Pads. (Colors are Vanilla and Seaside Stripe.)

and a FuzziBunz One Size Diaper in Lavender.

I saved about $15 total buying them used (plus there was free shipping!), which to my husband, doesn’t sound like a lot apparently…but I could buy another diaper with the money I saved!

I’m taking this as a sign…

My friend Denae at New Mom Survival Adventure recently did a post about cloth diapers.  Since then, the same topic has come up on several other blogs I read, including The Eco-Friendly Family and Bonzai Aphrodite.

So, I’m taking this as a sign…that it’s time to start my stash of cloth diapers!

I have always intended to use cloth.  Yes, it’s more laundry to do, but they’re so stinkin’ CUTE!  When I was naive, and thinking I could be a SAHM, I planned on only using cloth.  Now that (unfortunately) I will have to return to work at some point (unless we win the lottery in the next year…HA!), we’ll end up being a half cloth/half ‘sposie family.

Since I’m only going to need half of the number of cloth diapers that I originally thought, I want to make sure I’m getting my money’s worth.

I know I definitely want to try the new bumGenius 4.0’s.  I’m also kind of interested in these “hybrid” diapers that can be used as cloth or disposable (like gDiapers or GroVia).  However, I’ve heard those can get pretty pricey…

(But seriously, how CUTE is that?!)
