Looks like we’re moving into the “climbing toddler” phase soon. Oh goodie!
As most of you probably know, I’m on a birth board with other moms who had babies in August 2011. Honestly, it’s kind of boring now that there aren’t any debates on vaccines, breastmilk vs. formula, etc. Everyone’s just doing what’s best for their family (which you should do anyway), so I’m just scrolling through post after post on Halloween costumes, and where to find the best coat for the cold weather that will never make its way here. (I bet you $10 DS will be in a t-shirt and jeans at Christmas!)
But, one post actually caught my eye today! It’s about car seats, and whether people have started turning their kids forward facing yet now that they’re one. Legally, in my state, you CAN turn a child forward facing at the age of one, AS LONG AS they are 20-22 pounds.
However, “the AAP advises parents to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age 2, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat.” (From the American Academy of Pediatrics)
Here is a fantastic graphic on car seat recommendations from the NHTSA (click the image to make it larger):
At 13 months and 24-ish pounds, {Hunter} exceeds the current forward-facing law, but his seat is still rear-facing (and will be until at least his second birthday).
We may not do everything “crunchy” around here, but we are extended rear-facing!
If you’re in the market for a new rear facing convertible car seat, there are a ton to choose from! (I can personally vouch for the Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite Convertible Car Seat
& the Britax Advocate 70 CS Click and Safe Convertible Car Seat
. Both are fantastic!)

Baby Boy -
You are one year old! It seems like just yesterday that you were born! You were the prettiest baby in the nursery. (That’s not a typical mom brag, the nurses even said so!!) I will never forget the first time I held you in my arms…so tiny, so sweet…
In contrast, you are no longer “tiny”. You are still sweet, though our snuggle sessions are a thing of the past (unless you are REALLY tired, or sick). You are constantly on the move. Walking, and attempting to run. Sometimes, I imagine you saying “that’s for BABIES” in reference to crawling, like that girl in the Cheerios commercial.
You are such an amazing child, and I can not imagine my life without you. I can’t wait to see what the toddler years have in store. Thank you for picking me to be your mommy!
I love you so much!

Happy 11 months, big boy!
Just one short month until the big ONE! Holy moley, how did we get here so fast?!
You have made some huge strides developmentally recently. You can now stand without holding on to anything, bend down to pick something up and return to standing, and you’ve taken one step! I have a feeling you will be walking any day now. (Remember when I was saying that about crawling just a few months ago?)
In addition to dada, mama, and baba, you now say (what sounds to me like) “bye-bye” and “got it”. We’re still working on waving, though.
You have 5 (going on 6) teeth, and are a fantastic eater. You love cheerios for a snack (just like Mom!), and will eat pretty much anything we put in front of you.
Your favorite toy is anything that you can push around. (Particularly the round end table in the living room.)
Planning for your first birthday party is in full swing! Let’s get ready to celebrate! (And Mommy will try not to cry about how fast you’re growing up…)
I love you!

10 months old?! Where did the time go? You are such a big boy!
You continue to amaze me with all of your new skills. You easily pull up to standing, and are cruising a little now. It won’t be long before you’re walking! You’ve also started clapping, and will clap when someone else does. (This is the first time you’ve really copied something.)
You have FOUR teeth, two on the bottom and two on the top. You still prefer fruits over veggies, but your new favorite foods are pasta and cheese. You prefer to eat with your fingers, and just chew on the spoon.
You’re still a little chatterbox. You say “dada” to everyone, “mama” to me, and “baba” (which I think is bottle), along with all kinds of jabber that doesn’t sound like actual words.
Your personality is definitely coming out more. You have no patience (just like your mama…oops!). When you want something, you want it NOW, and you let us know!
I can’t believe how close you are to being one! Time to get to work on your birthday party!
I love you so much, little guy!

Happy 9 months, sweet boy!
Every day you seem more like a little boy than a baby.
It won’t be long before you’re crusin’ around the house. Then we’re in real trouble…
I love you!

It feels wrong to call you that now because you are crawling all over the place! On Easter Sunday, you finally figured it out…and you haven’t stopped moving since!
We had to lower your crib mattress, also. You can now pull yourself up on your knees and hold on to something. Many mornings I have found you awake and kneeling in your crib, with your face pressed up against the bars. lol
You can say “mama” and “dada” now, but still not to anyone in particular. Sometimes it comes out in a screeching voice, which drives your father crazy. (But I think it’s hilarious!)
You are so much fun, little guy. I love watching you grow up!
Lots of love, hugs, and kisses!

Happy 7 months (and one week)! Things have been really busy around here, and time is just flying by.
You sit up like a pro now, and you are so close to crawling, it’s ridiculous. Every day I wait to see if you’ll actually go forward instead of backwards or in circles.
You love to eat, and we’ve started trying some combos of foods you’ve already had. Banana is still your favorite, by far, but you will eat anything we feed you now (even green veggies which you weren’t crazy about at first).
I think you’re going to be a talker like your mama. You babble constantly, mostly “dadadadada”, though you still haven’t made the connection to who “dada” is.
I can’t wait to see what the next month has in store. I love you so much, little dude!!
