Let’s Cure Childhood Cancer Together

** I am an affiliate blogger for zulily, but I am not receiving a commission on the links below.  I am only sharing to bring awareness to this cause, and I hope you will donate if you can.  Thank you!

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and zulily is doing their part to help find a cure. Through September 30th, together with zulily we can help fund the Ben Towne Foundation, a nonprofit public charity that is working to accelerate the pace of new breakthrough research. Doctors at the Ben Towne Childhood Cancer Center for Research at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute have been working on an immunotherapy treatment that could make cancer treatment as we know it a thing of the past—within our lifetime. They are developing a treatment that uses a child’s own immune system to fight cancer, eliminating the need for chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Within 20 years, this cure could become the new normal.

Together we can help the reality of finding a cure go from ‘if’ to ‘when’.Visit zulily to donate to the Ben Towne Foundation, and to read more about the lives that this potential cure has already touched, and the doctors working so hard to make this miracle real. 100% of all donations will be used to support the research at the BTCCCR.

Back to (Pre)School with zulily

Affiliate links ahead! Thanks for supporting PGM!

It’s mid-July, and everywhere you look, stores are stocking up for BACK TO SCHOOL sales! I always loved this time of year when I was a kid. By mid-July, I was bored of summer vacation and ready to buy some new notebooks, and get back to class. (I’m pretty sure my enthusiasm wore off by mid-September, though!)

Though my son is not school-aged yet, I can’t help but browse through the Back to School deals at zulily! Since he’s turning 3 in about a month, I’m hoping to start working on a preschool curriculum with him at home. zulily has some wonderful resources from Carson-Dellosa Publishing Company that I think will work well for his age level.

We’ll start with basic skills, like cutting and pasting, and tracing. These Big Skills for Little Hands books help children build hand-eye coordination with fun activities, like collages and puzzles. Very important for a child with a short attention span!

pastetrace

He has a pretty good grasp of basic shapes, but he definitely needs practice with counting, which is why I like the I Can Learn My Numbers Workbook Set. He can use his cut/paste and tracing skills while he learns to count! (Currently, we’re good with 1, 2, 3…after that…meh.)

CARSONDELLOSA_744202_1364501990

We will also be working on recognizing letters and their sounds. The Letter of the Week Resource Book introduces the alphabet in a playful way using music, art, and science. We may need to stretch that one week to two…because right now, he just says random letters when you point to a word. (“P Q X!” “No, honey, that says “D O G”…)

Be sure to check out more great Carson-Dellosa resources for all ages and grade levels, and other Back to School deals at zulily! Happy Learning!

Clutter Clean-Up: Kids Playroom Organization

It’s a new year, so get a head start on your spring cleaning with these deals at zulily! (FYI I get a little something if you click the links below…*whispers* “support the blog!”)

Today is National Organization Day, and you can find all sorts of organizational tools for the kitchen, playroom, bathroom, bedroom, office, craft room, laundry room and more now on sale at zulily!

My focus is on the playroom, because…well…this is my living room (x 1000, because this pic was taken at least one birthday and one Christmas ago, so you can imagine what it looks like now!)

Luckily, we’ll be moving soon (more details on that later, when I actually have them!), and a playroom/gameroom is on our must have list! So, I’ve been searching zulily for a few things we’ll need.

1) Toy Storage – How cute are these wildlife bins! Available in Fox, Raccoon, Bunny, and Owl. Definitely need one of each!
2) Bookshelf – Sling bookshelves are great, because you can see the book covers, and they’re easily accessible. Anything is better than the stacks of books we have on our shelves now…
3) Rug to hide dirt – I’m not a huge fan of carpet (we don’t have any in our current home), but I would like to have a rug in the playroom to give Little Man a soft place to play on the floor. Obviously, with a two year old, light colored fabrics are a recipe for disaster! I think this gray rug would tie the room together nicely!

Check out zulily today for more organization inspiration! You can find great storage solutions for your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, home office, and laundry room, and more!

Christmas Toy Wishlist for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Affiliate links ahead! Click and support PGM! Thank you!

Like any mom, I’m always on the hunt for a good deal! That’s why I’m going to shop for toys, books and more at zulily this Holiday Season! That’s where I can find quality products from name brands at amazingly discounted prices!

My little guy is 2 years old now, and definitely knows what he likes (and what he doesn’t)! He’s really into planes, trains, and automobiles, so the Deluxe Train Set from PlanToys, and WOW Toys Johnny Jungle Plane would be great gifts for him. He loves WOW Toys, and so do I. They are great quality, and require NO BATTERIES!

WOWPlan

Keeping with the cars theme, he would love this SwingCar Ride-on toy from JOYBAY. I can see him racing through the house now. (We should probably make sure this stays an “outside only” toy…)

This Personalized Chalkboard Place Mat from Doodlebugz Crayola is the perfect item to keep him distracted at a restaurant, and bring out his artistic side! I’d rather him color with chalk than fingerpaint his mashed potatoes all over the table…

And what little kid doesn’t love a having a place to hide? Playhut’s Tunnel Crawl ‘N’ Play Tent is lightweight, and can be set up anywhere in seconds! (I’m sure the cat would think this is pretty fun, too!)

Little Helpers – Household Chores for Preschoolers

Affiliate links ahead! Support The Practically Green Mom and clickity click!

My little man is in a “helper” stage. He loves to sweep the floor with his “boom” (broom), and “clean up” (wipe a rag over any surface). I figure I should take advantage of his desire to help out now…right?

Such a good little helper - even back when he was 15 months old! {via Instagram}

I found this article on 10 Household Chores for Preschoolers that had some great ideas on chores that preschoolers can do around the house. Some of the suggestions my not-quite-two-year-old is still a little young for, but I could see him dusting (maybe not anything glass…but end tables and such, which he kind of does already) and washing windows with a spray bottle of white vinegar (I may have to go over them with a rag myself…he’ll probably just like the spraying part of that task!)

For older children, a responsibilities chart like this one from Melissa and Doug might be helpful to keep track of what needs to be done.

What kind of household chores do your children do? Do you have specific jobs for the younger ones that they enjoy? (I’m eager to pawn off some of my work! lol)

phil&teds Stroller Deal at zulily!

Recently, my husband and I have started contemplating adding a new baby to our family.  We’re not in any hurry to do so, but just the possibility of it being sooner than later has me thinking about what we will need to care for two children.

phil&teds stroller

So, I started doing some research on double strollers.  At the top of my list is the phil&teds Promenade Premium Urban Stroller, and this week only (August 1-8), zulily.com has them on sale! The stroller is $499.99 (reg. $850) and a second seat is only $99.99 (reg. $160).

What’s so great about the phil&teds Promenade Premium Urban Stroller?

  • Accommodates children from birth to age four
  • Can be used as a single or double stroller
  • Has eight seat configurations to allow traveling with two infants, an infant and toddler, or two toddlers
  • Has an adjustable handle (which my tall husband will appreciate)

I also found this video review on YouTube, so you can see it in action. (I’m not sure why it looks stretched out…sorry!)

philteds_vch_v1_9999_200_black_1374858946 The phil&teds Promenade Premium Urban Stroller has great reviews on Amazon and other sites, as well!  And if you already own a phil&teds stroller, you can stock up on accessories for it at zulily for a great price!  They have a bottle holder, storm or sun cover, car seat attachments, and more!
